Can Parents Change the Way Technology Enters Schools?
Lila Byock & Jodi Carreon
Schools Beyond Screens is a rapidly growing grassroots movement of parents across the United States working to make school technology policy more human-centred and evidence-based. In this conversation, Lila Byock and Jodi Carreon will share what they have learned from organising parents, challenging technology policies and building a movement — and what their experience might mean for families and educators in the UK and Europe.

About [Ed]Tech for the 99%
[Ed]Tech for the 99% is a growing international community of parents, educators, researchers and practitioners who believe that technology in education should serve children, teachers and society—not the other way around. The webinar series is organised and curated by EDDS Institute's founder, Veli Hillman, together with Dr Kali Thompson and Dr Molly Esquivel.
The name [Ed]Tech for the 99% is inspired by Feminism for the 99% by Cinzia Arruzza, Tithi Bhattacharya and Nancy Fraser. Like the authors, the initiative is less concerned with abstract debates than with exploring practical questions about the kind of education societies wish to build and have for their children—and the steps needed to get there. In this context [Ed]Tech for the 99% reflects a commitment to ensuring that educational technology is shaped by the needs of children, families and educators, not by commercial interests or technological trends.
Our aim for this space
To create a trusted space where research is translated into practical understanding, where questions are welcomed, and where people from different backgrounds can learn together in support of children’s education and wellbeing.
